Rental Cars in Hawaii

If you are staying on any island but Oahu, I recommend renting an auto. There are so many incredible natural beauty locations and fun activities on the islands that you will want to have the right vehicle to travel at your own pace. If you want simple Hawaii travel, having a rental car allows you that flexibility.

Should you choose a sedan, compact, van, sports car, convertible, jeep or SUV? Your choices are many. For the most part a 4 wheel drive is not necessary. Rental car companies recommend that you stay on county roads, in case of emergencies. If you do become stuck somewhere remote, your cell phone may not work, and help will be difficult to obtain.

For Oahu, a rental car is not a necessity as traffic volume is quite high and most resorts charge an additional daily fee to park your car. If you are staying in Waikiki, you will be within walking distance from most attractions. Tours are readily available so you can leave the driving to the people who are used to dealing with one way traffic in crowded conditions.

A car can be added to Hawaii vacation packages to help you get the best possible deal. In many cases you can save money by booking a full week, even if you are only staying 6 days. Weekly rates are discounted and you can avoid penalties for returning the car later in the day than when you picked it up. Having breathing space when returning your car is an added plus.

Having a car will assure you of having the best Hawaii inclusive vacation possible.
